Road users in London may well be preparing for traffic chaos during the Olympic Games, but owners of TomTom sat-nav devices will be able to avoid the worst of the disruption thanks to the company's Map Share service.
Temporary road closures, changes in traffic flow and additional turn restrictions will all be monitored and processed, in real time, by TomTom's dedicated 'map task force'. Customers will be able to access the daily updates, free of charge, through Map Share.
The worst day in terms of travel disruption is likely to be July 28, when more than 9,000 road changes will be introduced in the capital. On August 1 a further 3,000 changes will be made.
"We released our latest map update in May which included structural road changes in London and surrounding areas and points of interest relevant to the summer," said Tom Brown, TomTom's UK country manager. "Now we are going one step further.
"We want to ensure that our customers drive with the most up to date map available, taking into account the dynamic road changes resulting from upcoming events in the capital. Our aim is to do all we can to give London drivers the best navigation experience possible."
