A food delivery company has chosen to install a device that gives driver feedback throughout its fleet.

Kerry Foods Direct to Store (KFDTS) will roll out the technology to its 330 temperature-controlled vehicles after trials found the management system reduced crashes and fuel consumption.

The GreenRoad technology works by using a traffic-light system of LED lights on the vehicle's dashboard, allowing the driver to get instant feedback on their handling.

It also allows fleet managers to check on the drivers by offering online reporting and analysis of the vans' movements.

The trial at KFDTS' depot in Shepton Mallet found the firm's fuel costs were cut 9% as the 16 drivers became more aware of their fuel consumption.

The cost of repairing vehicle damage was also reduced, as the number of accidents went down to zero.

Operations director at Kerry Foods Andrew Restone said: "We now have access to information about how our drivers are performing enabling us to pinpoint areas that need improvement.''
